Barrett Foundation is grateful to the volunteers who help us with our mission to provide shelter, housing and supportive services. Individual and group guest chefs are one of the most appreciated ways to support the Barrett Foundation. The Guest Chefs prepare a weekend dinner for the women and children staying at the Barrett House Shelter.
What do Guest Chefs do?
Guest Chefs use our commercial-grade kitchen to prepare a home-cooked meal for the residents staying at the Barrett House Shelter or they bring in food prepared in another commercial kitchen or restaurant. We are not allowed to serve food that is not cooked in a commercial-grade kitchen.
What are the times for Guest Chefs?
Guest Chefs are primarily needed during the holidays. Dinner is served at Barrett House from 5 PM to 6 PM. Guest Chefs may come as early as 1 PM to begin dinner preparations. They may coordinate with the Development Coordinator to come earlier.
Who volunteer as a Guest Chef?
This is a great service project for individuals, companies, churches, families, youth organizations or a group of friends. Guest Chefs must be 10 years of age or older. There must be at least one adult 18 years old or older overseeing the group.
Any group is welcome to serve as Guest Chefs for as many times as they wish!
Kitchen orientation is conducted by appointment with the Development Coordinator. Check out our Guest Chef Guidelines for more detailed information.
