Barrett Foundation is grateful to the volunteers who help us with our mission to provide shelter, housing and supportive services. One of the most appreciated ways to support the Barrett Foundation is for individuals or groups to volunteer as Guest Chefs to prepare a weekend dinner for the women and children staying at the Barrett House Shelter.
What do Guest Chefs do?
Guest Chef volunteers use our well-equipped kitchen to prepare a home-cooked meal for the guests staying at the Barrett House Shelter or they bring in food prepared in another commercial kitchen or restaurant. We are not allowed to serve food that is not cooked in a commercial-grade kitchen.
What time do Guest Chefs need to serve?
Times needed: Holidays, Saturdays, or Sundays from 5 PM to 6 PM. Guest Chefs may come as early as 1 PM to start to make dinner or coordinate with the Development Coordinator to come earlier.
Who can sign up to be a Guest Chef?
This is a great service project for individuals, companies, churches, families, youth organizations or a group of friends. Guest Chef volunteers must be 10 yrs. or older. There must be at least one adult 18 years old or older overseeing the group.
Any group is welcome to serve as Guest Chefs for as many times as they wish!
Kitchen orientation is conducted by appointment with the Development Coordinator. Check out our Guest Chef Guidelines for more detailed information.
